For the apple mixture
  • 4 medium medium apples, peeled and chopped A mix of tart and sweet varieties for depth of flavor
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a different taste) Maple syrup is a vegan alternative
For the topping
  • 1 cup oats Gluten-free oats work too
  • 1/2 cup nuts (like walnuts or almonds) They add a lovely crunch
For serving
  • Yogurt or milk For serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, toss together the chopped apples, cinnamon, and honey. Mix well until all the apples are coated in sweetness.
  3. In another bowl, combine the oats and chopped nuts to create the crunchy topping.
Baking
  1. In a baking dish, layer the apple mixture first, then sprinkle the oat and nut mixture on top.
  2. Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the apples are tender and the topping turns a golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve warm with a generous dollop of yogurt or milk, or scoop on some ice cream.

Notes

For added flavor, try adding a tablespoon of lemon juice to the apples. You can also swap out honey for maple syrup for a vegan alternative. Feel free to add nutmeg or allspice for extra warmth.
