Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish generously with butter.
- Cut the bread into cubes and place half of the cubes at the bottom of the prepared dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread in the dish. Layer the spiced apples over the bread, followed by the remaining bread cubes.
- Pour the rest of the egg mixture over all layers, gently pressing down to ensure the bread soaks up the liquid.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
For added flavor, consider customizations like using day-old bread, experimenting with nutmeg or allspice, or preparing it the night before. Can be frozen before baking.
